Federal Retirement Calculator is made by one person. Questions, bug reports and disagreements about the maths all go to the same place, and all get read.

If a number looks wrong

This is the most useful thing you can write about, and the hardest to act on without detail. Three things make a report fixable:

  1. The version and build number, shown at the bottom of the My Info tab. There are often several builds in a week and it is otherwise impossible to tell which one you are describing.
  2. What the app showed, and what you expected instead. A GRB estimate to compare against is ideal.
  3. A backup file, if you are willing to send one — My Info, then “Export my data”. It contains everything you entered, so only send it if you are comfortable doing so. A description of the problem is still worth sending without it.

My numbers changed after an update

Sometimes that is deliberate. When a release corrects how something is modelled, the release notes say so explicitly and explain which direction figures move and why. If a number moved and the release notes do not account for it, that is a bug worth reporting.

Moving to a new phone

In My Info, “Export my data” writes a backup file you can send to yourself. On the new phone, install the app and use “Restore from a backup”. Nothing is stored anywhere but the device, so there is no account to sign in to and nothing syncs on its own.

Where your data goes

Nowhere. Everything you enter stays in the app's private storage on your own device. There are no accounts, no servers, no analytics and no advertising. Read the full privacy policy.

Checking the app against an official estimate

Always do this before acting on anything. The app has a screen that walks through comparing its figures against a GRB estimate line by line, and every rule it implements is cited to the .gov page it comes from — see the full list.
